windows dvd player

i will be building a new computer with an amd athalon xp 3000+ cpu, 700bm ram
and a 3dfx voodoo4 4500 agp, along with a sony dvd DDU-1613 drive. my video
cards specs say that it has hardware assist, in relation to dvds. -telling me
that i wont need an add-in card. with the above system, i am wondering if i
will be able to play my movies with the win98 dvd player? will it
automatically install? then, if not, is there another way to install the
win98 dvd player, outside of the add/remove programs applet? im assuming that
with this hardware, i should be able to use the windows 98 dvd player, having
it install itself.

also, which version of media player supports playing dvds?

thank you

1. You'll still need either hardware or software codecs to play DVDs on
Windows 98. The card's support will be insufficient. Check the card
packaging and it should tell you if it comes with a DVD player app that you
can install and use.

2. Since WMP7 you can play DVDs on your computer if you have a DVD player
and hardware or software codecs installed.
