Network Adapters
 
I'm experiencing connection problems with my IP server. Cable provider tells
me the problem might be a network driver issue. In addition, IP config
doesnt perform properly. It will release OK but wont allow for the renewal
process. I feel my cable provider might be correct in their accessment of my
problem because I am unable to change or eliminate password at point of
Start UP.

Please repost your question in the MS newsgroup, ...windowsme.networking.

Before doing so, try to determine if the NIC is on the mainboard, or is a
PCI card.
Does the BIOS setup permit disabling the m/b network adapter?
See if the vendor offers a newer driver.

It's not clear which password you are describing at your Startup, but review

Stop LogOn Prompt at Boot

Using the Client for Microsoft Network Logon is only necessary if
you're logging on to a Windows NT/2000 domain or server. All
peer-to-peer networking functions are available using Windows Logon as
the primary network logon.

To eliminate the logon prompt, set the primary network logon to
Windows Logon and use an empty password, as described in this
Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

Followed the steps as outlined in the article and eliminated password prompt
at start up. Upon further investigation into losing my internet connectivity
for no apparent reasons, I've come to the conclusion that my firewall
program may be at the root of the problem. My IP server is unable to access
my computer when the firewall program is up and running so IP CONFIG is
unable to detect any new settings. By disabling my firewall program as a 1st
step in the recovery process, my IP server will be able to forward me the
new settings. One last ? if I may. Under Network Adapters in Device Manager
it tells me that my devices are performing properly. What if anything might
be gained from a) using the refresh tool or b)checking for updates.

1) The Refresh tool causes Windows PNP to reinterrogate the devices. If
any new ones are found, the appropriate drivers will be installed, if they
can be found. If not, the user will have to point to the correct location
or to a local disk with the file/s.

2) The Update tool will interrogate Win Updates for updated drivers. A
better solution is to inspect manually for updated drivers at the vendor's
website/s. This driver is more likely to be the most current, even if not
MS-certified yet.

Can your ISP resolve your problem with the personal firewall? If not,
choose another firewall. It is important that you be protected and notified
when malware attempts to connect without your permission.
