USB on Dell Optiplex GX280
I have a Dell Optiplex GX280 that I am attempting to install Windows 98 on
in order to support legacy hardware and software at our company. I have installed the Intel 915G (80201) family chipset drivers, but when it attempts to install the PCI to USB bridge or the USB host controller, it detectf a USB Host Controller (doesn't see it as an Intel USB Host Controller) and locks the computer. I can go into safe mode and it works fine. Has anybody run into this? Is there any way to disable plug and play on Win98? I can't disable the USB controller in the BIOS because there are no PS/2 ports on the computer, so I'm forced to use USB for keyboard and mouse. Thanks for the help. |
Are you using drivers from Dell for the motherboard? If not, check with
Dell. Many times motherboards are configured to a manufacturer's specifications and the drivers from Intel might not be correct for this motherboard. Sorry, the last article wasn't one that will help. This might:
Troubleshooting Device Conflicts with Device Manager http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=133240 It really sounds like you either have incorrect drivers for your motherboard or a device conflict. You may want to try running setup using the /p i switch at setup. This switch tells Setup not to report the existence of a Plug and Play BIOS.
