HP Deskjet 340 USB setup

I have a DP 340 I want to use with a laptop running ME,
via a USB printer cable. The printer normaly used a
standard printer cable. The laptop can not be upgraded to
XP due to limited RAM memory.
I have been able to do this on a loptop running XP but
can not direct the printer to a USB port.
I would greatly appreciate any suggentions.

umm... what?

Why would you want to use USB when you have a parallel cable there that
does the job better IMHO.

I would definitely NOT second that remark. USB wins over parallel ANY TIME!

Number of problems I have had with devices plugging into parallel port = 0

Number of problems I have had with devices plugging into USB port = 5

Rick
but I'm including incredibly crappy drivers/software in that total, too.

I actually usually have very little problems with Big Blue stuff, but
the Canons, Xerox and HP have all worked quite well on the parallel
port, as have several scanners and a tape drive and an early version of
"file sharing".

But every bleepin' time I go to install something on the USB, I always
end up haveing to install it at least twice, and usually there's some
compromise (on my end) concerning perceived vs. actual functionality
that just rubs me the wrong way.

You're showing your age, Rick - LexMark haven't been owned by Big Blue
since around 1991!!

Heheh, my senility, possibly, my age... let's just say I'm not *quite*
old enough to be wary about leaving my coffee on top of the printer
(another IBM reference... *very* dated).
