Problem with Font

My company's using Windows ME for one PC (ya, I know it's old). And there's
this major problem we are facing now. We couldn't install any new font. We
tried all ways to install font. We tried copy and paste the font to the Font
folder. We tried dragging into the folder. We tried selecting the Install new
font from the menu.

What's worse? We couldn't even open any font file to preview them. Not even
common fonts like Arial, Courier, and Times New Roman. We tried installing
TweakUI and repair the font folder, but that didn't help either.

What else can we do (besides formatting)?

Including the Font Installer utility in Control Panel?

Your problem is possibly due to your fonts folder having lost its required
attributes. In which case there are two things you can do:

Either set the system & read attributes by hand as follows:
Start | Run and type:
attrib +s +r fonts

Or if you have TweakUI installed then open TweakUI and on the Repair tab,
select "Repair Fonts Folder" and then click "Repair Now".

Hopefully this should solve the problem. If not it is possible that the
file
fontext.dll has become damaged (see below).

Not much better here Mart. To be honest it seems cooler now than it did
during the night but that could be because I'm sitting in front of a fan.
Judging by yesterday though I don't think the fan will be much good after
a while either. What I need is a pool. g

Wouldn't be a lot of use at the moment though Mike - No water!! Should be
OK in a few years - when the whole of London is submerged g

Sorry Mike, - if it wasn't so serious, it might be funny 8(

Now if I had a pool I wouldn't have a water shortage! I might not be able
to fill it but if I had one it would have been full before they got round
to banning it. Where I'd put it though given that I live in a quite small
first floor 2 bedroom flat is another question entirely. g

As for being submerged where I live, I think I'll be well gone before that
happens. Fortunately I don't think I'm in the current potential flood
areas if the barrier were to fail on a surge, that's not to say this area
won't be at risk in 50 years time.
