win 98 problem
I have a homemade pc that I bought recently and just recently when i try to
boot it will start opening windows and then immediatly windows will shut down from the startup screen (IT NEVER OPENS) the system has an intel mb and hardware but I know that it is not a hardware problem because when I put in another HDD from an old pc it was able to boot. I thought that it was the hd but I installed it as a slave drive and it works except for the drivers for the board. What would be causing windows to be doing this on the first drive and how do I fix it. I do not have the win 98 disk as it was preinstalled but there is a copy of the disk on the hd. help pleasa. |
win 98 problem
the article that Ron is referring to talks about my problem with one
exception it says to reinstall windows but I do not have the actual disk it is located on the hard drive controlled by windows which will not open so how can I reinstall windows. I am not trying to be sarcastic with this just wondering if there is a way. thanks in advance. |

Press the F8 or CTRL key during the boot. When the Boot menu appears, choose
Command prompt only. From the command prompt, type: Scanreg /restore There is a space between the word scanreg and the /. Choose a date that is prior to your problem. PattyL "glenn" wrote in message ... how do I do this? yes i am a newbie lol.but at least I am honest and willing to learn lol. |

a bunch of newsgroups in the same post,
"microsoft.public.win98.disks.general;microsoft.pu blic.win98.display.general ;microsoft.public.win98.gen_discussion;" , shouldnt be a 'bad' everybody knows the question is asked in all the groups, all the replies get shared, everybody sees whats been tried & did or didnt work, and can pass on the answer to subsequent queries multiposting is a lot of single posts, the same question to separate newsgroups should be a bad nobody knows whats been tried in other answers nobody in the other groups finds out what fixed it, or if it was fixed. 2.3c worth have a nice day (+tax) -- - Adaware http://www.lavasoft.de spybot http://security.kolla.de AVG free antivirus http://www.grisoft.com Etrust/Vet/CA.online Antivirus scan http://www3.ca.com/securityadvisor/virusinfo/scan.aspx Panda online AntiVirus scan http://www.activescan.com Panda online AntiSpyware Scan http://www.pandasoftware.com/virus_info/spyware/test/ Catalog of removal tools (1) http://www.pandasoftware.com/download/utilities/ Catalog of removal tools (2) http://www3.ca.com/securityadvisor/n...aspx?CID=40387 Trouble Shooting guide to Windows http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/ Blocking Unwanted Parasites with a Hosts file http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm links provided as a courtesy, read all instructions on the pages before use Grateful thanks to the authors/webmasters _ "glenn" wrote in message ...
