Display adapter

I have had my computer off for a few weeks and when I tried to get it up and
going I have a black screen that states " If you can see this, that means
that windows has successfully loaded this screen adapter" it then goes on to
say " if you would like this to be on your desktop you can add thru the
setting menu". Well, I can't get it off of this message, I can hear the
windows chime and the beeps to mean it is loading on, but I can't see it.
PLEASE SOMEONE HELP ME!!! I DON'T REALLY WANT TO DO A SYSTEM REBOOT, I DON'T
WANT TO LOSE ALL OF MY PICTURES!!!!

You may have the display monitor plugged into the wrong port. Look for a
second connector on the back of the machine that is the same as the existing
monitor cable connection, and move the cable across to the other connector
and try again.

There exist in the world dual head video adaptors, the message given by the
OP is typical of the OS messsage displayed on second monitors, not yet fully
configured.
