Unable to load 98se no cd-rom driver found
I have a toshiba laptop (portege 2010ct) I have fdisk with 98se. When I
restarted it it wouldn't read the driver for cd-rom. So I can't load OS. I know the driver its looking for is on boot disk. I was able to format and it said the diagnosis tools were loaded to drive D. Is there anbody who can tell me how to get the system to load the driver. I also don't know my way around the system except that drive A: comes up, so I would need step by step instructions. Thanks for any help you can supply. Treg |

For general instructions on reinstallation see http://home.satx.rr.com/badour/html/w98_restore.html 2. BUT TAKE WARNING that some laptops (especially Toshibas) seem to require proprietorial drivers (i.e. generic Win98 drivers may not work satisfactorily.) Are these stored in a special folder on your hard drive? If so, you must not use FDISK or else it will wipe the old C: including setup files. 3. Each installation from CD requires a boot floppy. Several different types may be downloaded free from www.bootdisk.com. There may be a special Toshiba web site that suits your needs better. -- Don Phillipson Carlsbad Springs (Ottawa, Canada) |

Many laptops did not have the capability to hot swap drives; therefore, the
OEMs provided restore CDs which were bootable. Did your laptop come with such a CD? If so, go into the BIOS and make sure that the CDRom drive is listed as the first boot device. -- Regards Ron Badour MS MVP 1997 - 2008 "treg" wrote in message ... Go into the BIOS setup and see if you set the laptop to boot from the CD drive(hold down the "Esc" key during bootup). Be sure to save any changes when exiting. If this doesn't help or can't be done, please repost with more information, including whether or not you can use the floppy and CD drives simultaneously. Ben |
