Msiexec caused an error in unknown

I've tried to find an EXACT replication of this issue on Microsoft database
but rather than attempt a near miss repair - particularly as I'm no whizzkid
- I thought I'd consult the experts.

I recently reinstalled ME, loaded up all related software and performed a
Windows update. I then installed Office 2000 Home Premium from CD and
following research about securing Outlook with additional patches requested
SR-1 patch,

While looking at background documentation there was a recommendation to
download Installer ver 2 beforehand. I downloaded and can confirm I have the
correct version installed.

Back to SR-1 update - I passed the verfication test and attempted to
download update (note it recognised that Windows had already been patched so
was just looking for outlook update).

Towards the end of the update I received an Installer Terminated Prematurely
error referring me to a text file (further down this message)

Since then, any attempts to either uninstall, reinstall or repair have
resulted in Msiexec caused an error in unknown messages and clicking OK
just clears the dialogue box (i.e nothing else happens)

Your assistance is much appreciated and if I need to elaborate further I am
happy to.

Tony

Msiexec caused an error in unknown

Tony,

I think you might be better off by posting to an Office newsgroup however
I would at least try reinstalling the Windows Installer.

Details of how to reinstall the Installer are contained in MS KB324638
""The MSIEXEC.EXE file is linked to a missing export MSI.DLL:222" error
message when you to install, update, or remove a Windows Installer-based
program" (http://support.microsoft.com/Default.aspx?kbid=324638) which
also includes a link to download the v2 installer required for Win Me.
Note however that it is ESSENTIAL to remove/rename all copies of msi.dll
before starting the reinstall and that you may need to do this by booting
to DOS using a boot floppy and working from the DOS prompt.

Towards the end of the update I received an Installer Terminated
Prematurely error referring me to a text file (further down this
message)

Patch applied (995).

This looks as if the error is 995

The only reference to this error (995) is MS KB297107 "You receive an
"Installer terminated prematurely" error message when you use the !
logging option to install Office XP"
(http://support.microsoft.com?kbid=297107) which may or may not apply to
Office 2000 which is an unsupported product however I can't see that
logging was enabled.

Tony,

No apology was required or called for. I simply mentioned the Office NGs
as I thought there might be a better chance of you finding a solution
there as so few people now read the Win Me NGs.

Cheers and the very best of luck. Oh, and I'd love to know the answer
once you find it.
