May be an academic question, but...
I have a new 250 gig drive. Can I just go ahead and install Windows ME on it
or do I have to use the disk manager overlay on the drive? I ask this because I have tried 3 times to install ME and after ME goes thru the install and copies all the files to the disk and reboots, that's as far as the install goes. I can't boot to the ME environment. My motherboard supports large disks and USB 2.0, and has all the bells and whistles. Am I missing something very basic? I have a specific reason for wanting ME (along with XP for dual booting purposes) on this disk. |

I have a specific reason for wanting ME (along with XP for dual booting purposes) on this disk. Windows Me supports only the FAT16 and FAT32 file systems on hard drives. This means that the largest workable size for a hard drive is 128 gb. Anything larger requires either a cluster size bigger than 32K or more than 4.1 million total clusters, and either will cause problems. You need to partition your hard drive so that it has a primary DOS partition no larger than 128 gb with the remainder of the drive as an extended DOS partition containing at least 1 logical drive (2 if the extended partition is more than 128 gb).
