Missing CD Rom
I've been messing around with an old computer and decided to upgrade the
operating system to Windows Me from Win 98se. The upgrade seemed to go just fine until I got back to the desk top after the upgrade was complete. In checking "My Computer" I found that the floppy "A" and Hard Drive "C" were present, but the CD Rom drive was missing and when I put a disk in to read it, it would not function. This is the same drive I used to do the upgrade. When I check the BIOS the drive is listed. What did I do wrong? |
Missing CD Rom
Probably nothing! :)

In normal mode I found Conflicts with Primary IDE Controller (dual fifo) and
Secondary IDE Controller (dual fifo) and PCI Communications Driver. I then went to Safe Mode and found no conflicts with the IDE or Communications Driver, but did find the CD/DVD drives listed. I removed the CD/DVD drives and restarted. In normal mode I again found the same problems and no CD /DVD listed. I again went to Safe Mode and found all the above listed as conflicts and no CD/DVD Drives listed. I removed all the conflicks and restarted in normal mode and back to base one. Same conflicts and no CD/DVD drive. When I use the boot disk the CD Drive loads just fine. It is also listed in the BIOS in the probler place. OK - sounds like you have an IDE conflict ongoing -
In Safe Mode Device Manager How many IDE Master Controllers do you have going??? How Many Primary Controllers? How Many Secondary Controllers? -- Noel Paton (MS-MVP 2002-2006, Windows) Nil Carborundum Illegitemi http://www.crashfixpc.com/millsrpch.htm http://tinyurl.com/6oztj Please read http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm on how to post messages to NG's "Briandp" wrote in message ...
