Merry Crimbo peeps
Kind of sad how for the last few years this group has been virtually empty
Crimbo Day. It used to be almost IM (which I don't use, which maybe made it seem a bit more special? I suppose the appeal of IM is the feedback carrot). I think the microsoft.public.windowsme groups were invigorating because despite being IMO the best 9x version, it was (and still is) widely disliked (there are *some* advantages to Conformity). So they were never oversubscribed, dominated by the intolerant and egomaniacal types who do and always have dominated the XP, Vista and presumably now Windows 7 groups. It is rather as if this has been a 'backwater' where the discerning went. Sure, many WinMe users were complete novices whose first computer came with it, but often simply finding these groups is a kind of initiation and sufficient a learning curve as to mean they came here with the wit and attitude to contribute to the company; and of course those who kept returning contributed to the family, as opposed to the brawl of those other groups in which the few sparkling stars are blotted out by the probing coal-black clouds of trolldom. So WinMe family, hope you didn't just get a lump of coal in your stocking! I think I'll go light mine. The FSM bless us, each and every one! Merry Crimbo! Shane |
Merry Crimbo peeps
Hi Shane, - and a Merry Crimbo to you (and all) too.
Not only quieter here, but it's also sad (for me) in as much as although my WinMe desk top(s) had already been consigned to the great skip in the skies, I did 'maintain' a winMe laptop for medicinal purposes - attempting to dispense cures to those with various symptoms of Winfluenza. But this too is about to be laid to rest. Her indoors wants a clearout! However, as you allude, later systems (and Groups) are not so friendly. Progress? or a sign of the times? MS not wanting to include W7 in these NG's? - although you can find alt.windows7 elsewhere. And OE6? - in spite of external noise - and especially since the introduction 'back-up' immediately before compression - has only ever let me down once (and that was due to finger trouble) and was (mostly) recoverable. It still *reliably* copes with some 2G of email files. Outlook, Windows Mail and now Windows Live Mail don't give me the same simple 'clarity' and 'flexibility' - and those colleagues who do use the 'new fangled' mail handlers seem to have far more trouble than me. Progress! I've yet to install my new Win7 'upgrade' on/over my (fairly new - July) Vista laptop, maybe, perhaps, over the xmas period or early new year. I think I'll make it a New Year's resolution - for 2011. When's Win8 due? Move over Shane, I'd like to warm my hands over your lump of coal before the thought police tax/prosecute you for carbon dioxide pollution. Sign of the times! Bah! - Humbug!! - Nah! - Enjoy what we've got. Merry Crimbo Mart "Shane" wrote in message ... Kind of sad how for the last few years this group has been virtually empty Crimbo Day. You _really_ do need to get to use virtual machines and then Win Me (and OE)
can live for ever! :-) Enjoy your lunch and don't hog the fire! -- Mike Mart wrote: Hi Shane, - and a Merry Crimbo to you (and all) too. Good to see you still around. Enjoy yourself and humbug aside, enjoy your
mince pie(s) but careful with the cooking sherry. Merry Crimbo peeps
I've got two laptops here still running ME. And I've put up a Microsoft VPC
on my Vista system with ME installed in it. I expect that, eventually, the two laptops will no longer be of any use at all and they'll go away. But the ME on VPC will likely go on for some time. A couple of programs that will not run in Vista run just fine there. - Bill "Shane" wrote in message ... Kind of sad how for the last few years this group has been virtually empty Crimbo Day. Guess we each have our own way of celebrating the season, but one thing we can agree on he WinME and it's group was 'tops' and I am glad we still can 'connect'. According to public opinion Windows ME and Vista are 'throw aways'. Is the fact that I like WinME and Vista just fine of a personal reflection, or could the public be wrong? Both systems are totally under my control and work exceptionally well for me. In the end, that's all which counts, isn't it? Hope everyone is enjoying this festive time. Harry. Shane |

Hoppy New Year and say " Good Night, Gracie " 2009 was kind of crazy Some don't recall It's too hazy 2010 sounds so much better That's if we all don't end up debtors The rich don't care cause greed is unfettered perhaps eating a few will make everything better ? ® Mow Shane wrote: Kind of sad how for the last few years this group has been virtually empty Crimbo Day.
