always hangs on shutdown

Every time i go into shutdown the pc just hangs so i have
to switch it off on the tower. Therefore every time i
start up it goes through the file check system. But i
tried it in safe mode and it shuts down normally and boots
up normaly as well. I`ve reformatted the disc and added no
further software etc, but the problem is still there. Can
anyone help me please. Andy.

Andy, there are many articles out there on many things that can cause
shutdown issues like you are describing. Here's a very good website to
read up on all the things you can check to fix it.

Andy,

Sounds like a program that loads at boot can be causing the problem.
Maybe a Norton AV feature. Try Start Run and enter Msconfig and
look under the Startup tab. Un-check un-necessary programs one at a
time to find the culprit. You can narrow it down quicker by
un-checking several at a time.

This just stops them from loading, you can go back and check them.
Once you have found the offending program look in it's preferences
or options and stop it from loading there.
