I am using a ps/2 mouse and have tried two other keyboards, but to no avail.
Is there anything else i COULD TRY tHANKS "Mike M" wrote: Andrewllan wrote: When I try to boot Windows ME the system hangs waiting for myself to press either F2 or enter This sounds like a bios problem rather than the operating system. but it will not recognise the keyboard can anybody suggest anything? Try and borrow another keyboard. Preferably PS2 rather than USB. If you are using a USB keyboard the problem might be because you haven't enabled USB Legacy support in the bios meaning that the keyboard is unusable until the system loads. -- Mike Maltby |

What is the EXACT message you see when asked to press either F2 or enter?
It is just possible that your problem is due to the battery on your motherboard failing and the CMOS losing the settings used by your bios. If this is the cause then the cure is to replace the battery. -- Mike Maltby Andrewllan wrote: I am using a ps/2 mouse and have tried two other keyboards, but to no avail. The message says "press f2 to enter BIOS or del to enter CMOS" Is this a battery problem "Mike M" wrote: What is the EXACT message you see when asked to press either F2 or enter? Well it's your bios talking to you and there has to be a reason. This has
nothing to do with the operating system you have installed. I think it quite likely that your problem is due to a failed or failing motherboard battery as this will cause the CMOS to lose its data when the machine is turned off, meaning that the bios has to redetect your hardware including your hard disk, keyboard and mouse before it can proceed. I'm uncertain however as to why pressing F2 doesn't access the bios given that you are using a PS2 keyboard. -- Mike Maltby Andrewllan wrote: I get no response from pressing f2 or enter it just hangs The message says "press f2 to enter BIOS or del to enter CMOS" Is this a battery problem |
