Removing the MSN Internet Access icon from the desktop

Can anyone explain to me how to remove the MSN Internet Access icon from the
Windows 98 desktop?

Once you have used the wizard to set up an internet connection, you =
should just be able to right click and select delete. If that fails, =
this was for the 5x versions.
kb 263043 - How to remove MSN 5.x icon from the Windows desktop.
To remove the MSN or The Microsoft Network icon from your desktop, =
delete the following registry key, and then restart the computer.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\explorer\Des=
ktop\NameSpace\{88667D10-10F0-11D0-8150-00AA00BF8457}

I would export that key first as a backup in the event you need to =
restore it.

By default MS puts various system icons on the
Desktop. Your easiest control of this is TweakUI.
Locate TWEAKUI.INF on your CD, right click and
select Instal.

However, as Gary Terhune mentioned in another thread a user must use TweakUI
with care and that he has not used it since 1999. This comment means a great
deal to me. When you connect to the Internet through another service than
the icon is usually removed automatically but you can always follow Mikhail's
advice and right click to remove it.

Trotting out a blast from the past......

"Some icons (like the one for Microsoft Network)
cling to your desktop like barnacles.

That's because Microsoft deliberately left out the Delete command
from the icon's context menu.

To fix this, open the Registry Editor (run REGEDIT) and navigate to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\
Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Desktop\ NameSpace.

Select an alphanumeric key--
a long string of numbers and letters in brackets--
in the NameSpace folder, and the key's corresponding icon name
will appear in the right-hand pane under Data.

When you find the icon that you want to lose, right-click its key
in the left-hand pane and select Delete.

Close the Registry Editor, click on the desktop once,
and then press F5 to refresh. The icon's gone--and good riddance.

(Make a note of its key, just in case you need to re-create it.)."
