I have used a removeable USB drive and once when I removed the drive the Drive name and letter did not leave from my computer. Now I have a "permanent" removeable "E" drive that does not really exist. Any ideas how to remove it or fix the problem?

My computer often decides to lock up at random times. I have to seperate drives, so that I do not overload one given drive. I cannot scandisk, because it tells me that the computer is writing to the drive or run any other program to assist my computer. Please respond kevin
