HDD suddenly has bad sectors by
SpamMePlease\(NOT\)
Hi
Have a hdd which has suddenly developed bad sectors/clusters.
Currently I cannot boot to windows so I booted to the command prompt and ran
a surface scan dos utility with the auto fix switch.
This surface scan dos utility has been running day and night for 4 days and
has 1200+ bad clusters.

How does one remove an USB Flash Drive safely from Windows 98 SE? by
Ant
In Windows 2000 and XP, one goes through the system tray and remove it
by telling Windows that you're not using the drive anymore because of
possible data loss. I assume it was the same for 9x, but then I noticed
USB system tray icon was missing. PCMCIA system tray icon exists to stop
the devices...

Second Hardrive by
Omer
Hi,
New to this so please excuse me if I ask silly questions.
I just installed a second hard drive into my Gtaeway computer which is
running 98SE. It is a Samsung 80Gig drive. I did the partitioning and format
and I only got 32 gig.
I was told that the BIOS may not support the 80Gig drive so I...

Phantom floppy drive by
peter_cologne
I have only one floppy drive in reality. It was faulty so I installed a new
one yesterday. Since then, Windows recognises the new drive but as drive B
and insists that the old drive is still there as drive A.
This isn't just a minor point as certain functions (such as creating a
startup disc)...

Cannot access hard drive on laptop by
Alberto
A coworker was messing around with his laptop yesterday (he thinks BIOS
settings) and now can no longer boot WIN98 from his hard drive. When we use
an external floppy (IBM ThinkPad 310ED - because there isn't one on board)
and a WIN98 boot floppy, we can't get to drive C. I can get to D - CDROM,...

Formatting a 20G HDD, One Partition, With Small Size Clusters by
Brad
Hi,
I installed a 20G HDD in my Windows 98se computer. With one partition,
I formatted it. The results is 16K byte clusters. With a FAT32 system,
a 32 bit number ("index") can represent around 4.3G. This in effect should
allow around 4 billion clusters maximum.
The major reason for a...

Win 98 SE and 40 GB USB drive : only 6 GB visible .. by
R.Wieser
Hello all,
I've recently put a 40 GB drive in an external enclosure with an USB
connection, but have problems with using the drive.
When I try to partition the drive (using the standard W98se FDISK) it comes
back as a a drive of only 6 GB (which probably has to do with the 32
GB-limit). Applying...

second 120 GB HD under win98 - anyone has the solution to my problem? by
Jan Flodin
Thought I had investigated what had to be done, but unfortunately I am
now stuck.
In short, I have put in a second hard disk with its own controller card.
The computer sees the disk ok, partionioning the disk made win98 see the
disk and its capacity ok. Formatting the disk went ok, but win98...

IE6 Removal by
Highly Frustrated but Resolute and Determined
I sincerely appreciate the help I've received regarding
how to remove malware, but at this point it would be
easier to simply uninstall IE6 and reinstall it.
Is there anybody out there who knows how to do this? The
only options offered under add/remove programs for IE6 are
to either repair the...

downloading to disk by
Anna
I want to download some games for my son's computer that
isn't on line but the games take up more space than the
disk allows. I don't know much about zip files but, is
that what I have to do to download games? Can anyone tell
me a simple way to do it?

seem to have those files!

Hard disk full by
Roger
I started getting the hard disk full warning when my
2.2gig C:\ was about half full. Without adding any further
software to the disk it now shows the disk as almost
totally full. Waht could be filling my hard drive?
I have ran disk cleanup and found nothing that seems to be
hogging the drive.
