.NET installation by
Jake[_2_]
As a basic home user with WinME, do I need to install the .NET
packages?
I don't do any programming, just browsing.
Who does need the .NET apps ?

Windows Me & XP Network Printers by
Martin Murray
My wife has Windows ME on her system and I am running XP. We need a printer
with ME drivers so are thinking of the Canon Pixma 160.
Anyway, if we get that and I attach it to my system as a shared printer and
give her permissions, etc., should she be able to use that via the network

webster72n
The newer ver. 4.1 of SpywareBlaster is available.
Recommended course of action:
1. Download ver. 4.1.
2. Disable all protection of ver. 4.0.
3. Uninstall ver. 4.0 via Add/Remove Programs.
4. Install ver. 4.1 and enjoy.
A request for donations is always attached.

Microsoft Word Viewer by
Dapper Dan
I have a friend still with Windows Me who cannot open Microsoft Office
documents. I have searched the Microsoft website for a Word Viewer but the
oldest I can find appears to be Word Viewer 2003 which doesn't appear
compatible with Windows Me. Before installing Office, I used to have Word...

Cleaning up by
PAT (Paul)
Maybe I'm missing something. After cleaning up my different programs for
viruses and malwares, I'm wondering if I'm out of touch. I have
SpywareGuard V.2.2.0.1 which dates from 2002 and when trying to update, I'm
told that its up to date??
On the other hand I had SpywareBlaster V.3.5.0.1....

Ad-Aware SE troubles by
SSJ04 Mewtwo
Has anyone using Ad-aware SE noticed when the programs loads the last two
latest de files have been corrupt? I've not change the way I've gotten the

Is Thumbs.db file necessary? by
PAT (Paul)
If I download even one or two pics, or hundreds, I get this Thumbs.db file.
Is there a way to get rid of this file? In one picture file there is almost 1
GB in the Thumbs.db file.

My pc is brain dead, trying to do most any thing gives me a Microsoft

And in fact pages don't disply anything.

OJ:
One thank you isn't enough for providing the info to this program, so I am
giving you a special thank you with this message.
After activating Acronis, I was overwhelmed by the 'beauty' of this utility,
in every aspect and only wish to have had access to it sooner.
The outstanding feature is...

Free Year of CA Antivirus by
Heather
Saw this today on the antivirus group......but I doubt that I will go
back to it. Confusing as Avast can be at times, I think I prefer their
detection rate and the fact that it always updates.......not like CA.
But it is worthwhile knowing it is out there.

Problem with computer freezing while using IE 6 by
The Moose
In case you're interested:
I had posted back in late March that I was having problems with a 7-
year-old IBM Netvista constantly freezing while using Internet
Explorer 6.
I sent the motherboard off to http://www.badcaps.net to have the
capacitors replaced at a cost of $65 for 'standard'...

DST revisited by
webster72n
Food for thought!
Even though an off-topic, I thought it to be worthwhile mentioning.
According to native american wisdom this analogy holds quite a bit of water:
When told the reason for daylight saving time, the old Indian said:
"Only white man would believe that you could cut a foot off the top...

WinME internal use of ports? by
Greegor[_2_]
I've been using Tiny Personal Firewall, AVG and Spybot S&D resident.
I keep seeing various programs that are part of Windows
attempting to access IP addresses and ports that
do not make sense to me.
One of the programs was an AVG file itself, but
trying to talk to some stange IP address...
