I am adding a second hard drive to my system and would
like to assign the drive letter R:\ to it rather than

Chink!
A PC running Windows 98 now says Boot Disk failure.
I havent been making any modifications or upgrades to it.
Sometimes it boots Ok but usually crashes.
I tried using a boot floppy but could not get Win98 to boot with cd-rom

I assume I need a new hard drive...?
Any help welcome

CDR & CDRW not accessible by
Chris
My CDR and CDRW used to work fine. Neither can be accessed
now - all I get is a message saying " not
accessible; device not ready".
This has been a gradual process, certainly as far as the
CDRW is concerned. Originally it would read and write.
Then it stopped writing CDRW, then, from time to time,...

Don't have a clue how to get to the "newsgroup reply

themselves, scanned for viruses, uninstalled and re-
installed, tried to update latest...

'disk full' error when disk isn't full by
Chris Nellist
Windows 98 is giving me disk full errors when the hard disk shouldn't be
full.
There should be 2.5GB of space. There was, until recently. The contents of
the directories add up to 6.8GB and the disc's capacity is 9.3GB (in one
big partition).
It is also displaying the file sizes of some large...

Compressed drives by

My Windows 98SE machine has just failed after years of good service - BIOS
problem I think.
I have removed its hard drive, fitted it into a usb enclosure and connected
it to my XP Pro laptop.
The drive has several partitions on it, most of which are FAT32 or FAT -
these are all readable.
But one...

Is there any way I can get this file w/o the install disk? by
Chubb Rob
I just bought some video editing software. When I added
the hardware to my system, it asked for the Win98SE CD so
it could load the 1394bus.sys file. I bought this computer
used and Win98 already came on it, so i don't have the CD.
IS there any way I can get this file without the disk? If
not, can...

USB Keys in Win98SE by
Claude Albertario
I am interested to know how to enable the use of USB Flash
drives in Win98SE? Are there generic drivers for this, as
I know some manufacturers provide CDs with their keys. Is
it really just vendor specific or is there a set of
generic drivers?
