I have a Sony Vaio with ME on it I have purchased a dell with XP on it how do I move stuff from me to xp my desk top and other information like favorites and word doc ect. to the new unit safely and how do I determin what to move and what to not move?

I recently had some repairs done to my pc (new processor and motherboard) and now my peripherals won't start up or shut down with the pc. Can anyone tell me how to get this happening? Oh, I should add that the pc was reformated and Win Me was reinstalled. Any advice would be appreciated.
