after downloading movies from lime wire mpeg avi and other i keep getting class not registerd, what should i do please help! lex

Some of my .avi,and . files are not playing.I've tried to play them on several players and I always receive a "class not registered" error.How do I fix this.Any and all helped is greatly appreciated.Thanks.

I am using Windows Media Player to play Tivo programs on my laptop (Tivo to go feature). For these files, the FF and REW buttons are disabled. I was advised to try a different codec.
