I finally got win98 installed on my puter. I was given
this old HP Colorado T3000 tape drive, so I decided to
install it in the machine, since there was an open bay
for it. I don't have the software or drivers for it, so I

"Windows is shutting down", but doesn't by
DRIFT-O-MATIC
After installing WIN98 on this really slow Pentium (r)
computer, I notice it doesn't automatically shut down
when selected to do so. The screen just shows the
Microsoft Windows98 logo, and at the botom, it
reads: "Windows is shutting down." But it never does.

I backed up my accounting files and other files to a 3.5"
diskette to reformat my hard drive. Now I can't restore
these files
I keep getting an illegal operation message and the
restore program closes. All other disk that were used to
backup files work ok. I tried running scandisk to it but

I deleted a game and associated unrecognized programs off
my computer thru the add remove folder and when I tried to
restart I get the message"Explorer has performed illegal

I recently decided to upgrade from win98se to xp pro. Some
of the software was incompatible with xp so I decided not
to upgrade. Now I can't run Scandisk or Disk Defragmenter
at all. I've tried everything I can think of (including
disabling Norton Antivirus and Firewall), but scandisk
runs 10 times...

Anyone know of a good "how to" manual for restoring an
old Windows 98 machine? I inherited a '98 and would like
to learn something and get this thing humming again.
Right now it doesn't load up consistently. Sort of
starting from scratch.

I have a bare deskstar 80gb. what is the best way to get

Shows in box that defragmenting process is running, however, the percentage seldom changes-sometimes it will go up to 2%-but never further. Generally it remains on 0%.

full.
There should be 2.5GB of space. There was, until recently. The contents of
the directories add up to 6.8GB and the disc's capacity is 9.3GB (in one

I can't get win98 to start even in safe mode because it
says "Invalid page fault at explorer.exe ..."
At the C:\windows directory I see an explorer.exe file
