What determines the HDD that \TMP\ is on? by
Stan Hilliard
I have a program that tries to extract files into D:\TMP\ during
install. There is not enough free space on D: for that.
What determines that \TMP\ is on D: instead of C: or some other drive?
OS=Win98SE

System hangs when left idle by
Michael Goodwin
Running plain old 98 on a Dell Dimension; Anti-virus up to date etc
If I leave system switched on & unused - it invariably "hangs" and can only
be restored by re-setting. Internet connection is dial-up & off by the way.
Any ideas where to start looking for the source of the problem?
Thanks in...

I wonder if anyone has actually tested the following:
Will HD read/write performance between two HD's be faster if
1. one is placed on the primary controller (IRQ 14) and one on the secondary (IRQ 15)
2. both are placed on the same controller (let's say primary), one as master, one as slave

all programs and leave one item "Winoldap" at the task list. After about 30
seconds, the item appears to be "Winoldap (not responding)". Windows 98...

Troubleshooter (this time in English) by
Roger Fink
I sometimes wonder if the people who labor to keep this OS functioning to
its original design parameters get enough credit for their work.
Mr. Dundat, that was one hell of a fix for Troubleshooter.

what is 'disk imaging'? by
Vic
Was going through posts in this group and saw a number of comments on 'disk imaging'. I've heard of 'imaging' from years back but
never understood what it is, or how someone can take an 'image' and restore all their data from an image to another drive. To me
imaging sounds like backing-up...

Deleting registry keys for uninstalled programs by
pauper58s
Actually I have three questions...
Is there any danger in deleting registry keys (and subkeys) for uninstalled
programs?
ie. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Copernic
Need the subkeys to Copernic be deleted first or will deleting the Copernic
key take care of it all?
