computer shuts down while on the internet? by

Friend called with ther computer shutting down while on the internet.
I remember a virus that did that, qhost ot welch (I think, something like
that). Not sure if it was one of them, there was a simple virus removal tool
for it from symantec, but can't remember which virus it was?

Windows Update and Newsgroups... by

I am sending this question via another computer because my home computer (OS
Windows 98SE) will not allow me to enter the Windows Update Website, nor the
Newsgroups Website. I can successfully surf the internet except for these
two websites.

I just started getting a "Fatal Exception 06 occurred at 00FF:000044FA"
(different computer than the one I am using to post this). The blue screen

I've been having trouble lately and need some advise on where to look next.
My "Internet Explorer" and my "Media Player" both have begun to freeze up
