When I go to run in the start menu and type regedit, It says Registry editing has been disabled by your administrator. This is on my home computer and everyone in the family uses the same login; there is no administrator. How do I renable rededit?

using registry need for backup? by Bill in Co.
In addition to what the others have said, I think it's a good precaution to manually run scanreg just prior to installing a new program, in case something goes wrong. In many (but not all cases), you can recover that way. dockerx6 wrote: Hi I'm not sure if I'm getting this? sorry to be so...

Deathly Slow Folder Access by Gary S. Terhune
No idea, Doug. Chris Quirke, the master of file systems, would be the person to ask. I figure the file system is a massive database, that your problem folders were in need of "compacting" (in database parlance), and Scandisk simply isn't rigged to "catch" whatever was wrong with it--didn't see it...

Clock by Gary S. Terhune
Being locked out of changing the time isn't right. You should consider the possibility that some program, either one you installed and which runs in the background, or a malicious intruder, is causing this problem. To that end, you're the lucky recipient (first today) of my extended advice on...

getting floppy to eject automatically on shutdown by Larry
With a Dell Dimension with Windows 98, is there a way that when I shut down the computer, it will automatically eject any floppy diskette that happens to be in the floppy drive? This would avoid the annoyance of starting to boot the computer later and then realizing that it hasn't booted because I...

Backup/Startup CD by rooster
Salut; A couple of months ago, I had a 2nd hand computer given to me without provenance, manuals or CD. It had W98 OEM pre-installed by Touch Systems of Canada. I was browsing thru MS Tips & Tricks this a.m. and it suggested making a Startup CD as a backup in case of trouble. In trying this,I was...
