Since I installed Macromedia flashplayer to view a particular web site (channel4.com) my computer has been hanging at shutdown. How do I get rid of this to put my computer back to what it was?

I have an alarm sound, which sounds like an ambulance siren, go off. It seems to be when windows hangs the alarm goes off. If I shut down programs that aren't being used this sometimes takes the sound away. It's not a heat alarm, as I first thought it was.
