Quick Launch menu background by
Leyts
After attempting to add a NIC to an older PC (Win98, Pentium II) so my kids
don't fight over whose turn it is to use the internet the quick launch menu
background is black (instead of the usual light grey). I even tried
re-installing Windows -- no effect.
I'd just ignore it but i makes me think...

Problem with extracting files in Windows 98 by
Martin Healy
I want to extract new copies of files in order to replace missing files and
repair damaged files for the purpose of avoiding a reinstallation. I think
there is a good chance that this will fix the current inoperable state of my
Windows 98 machine. As I can't boot to Windows (not even Safe Mode),...

I'm in the process of upgrading the memory of my Windows 98 machine after a

Flickering display by
Jon_Hildrum
More likely to be the monitor than the video card.
Check to see if there is something that may cause interference in vicinity
of the monitor like a fluorescent light.
Typical, you can disable onboard video in BIOS

I've just bought a new laptop and was burning some files to CD from my
Windows ME tower PC, when it crashed.
I powered it off (not via the Start menu - as the PC had locked). Now, when
I power up, the monitor shows the makers logo, but goes into a 'suspend'
mode as Windows loads.
I know Windows...
