External CD/DVD drive slowing boot by
Endulini
Hi All,
Ever since I installed an external CD/DVD drive, my PC takes an age to boot,
appearing to hang for a couple of minutes before springing into life. If I
disconnect the drive it boots at normal speed again. Is there any way around
this?
Thanks.

File Gone Bad? by
Paradoxdb3
This is a question about an mp3 file that Windows Media Player could not
play. The file was once playable I'm sure, but now Windows Media Player
can't play the file format yet it will play all the other mp3 files in the
same folder. Is there a reason why this would happen?

Recently, my Jasc Paint Shop Pro7, that has worked quite well for some time,
suddenly would not work due to a missing file, Data1.msi. Since I had
IrfanView, I made my .jpg files open with the latter. Image files of any sort
are now identified with the IrfanView icon. For some reason the

Memory Reset? by
D
Hi,
I have a 98SE desktop with plenty of RAM, and on a daily basis I have to
reboot because it has "Run short of Resources".
I am letting Windows handle virtual memory.
Is it a Registry problem?
Is there a way to free memory after it is/should be released by programs?
Thanks
D

Desktop shuffle after safe mode by
keith
Desktop icons always get shuffled after running safe mode.
Not sure if they are re-sorted by date or size or type but neither are
preferred.
Any way to preserve preferred desktop arrangement?
Thanks.
