WOW all of the replies seem so technical and I am afraid
to screw up something major on my p/c as I have been known
to remove things that I never should have..LOL even with
the norton and the zonealarm, I recvd a virus and had to
have win98 reloaded to clean. maybe I should have someone
walk me...

what they are....what is a 'PCI ATM Controller and PCI Communication Device?'
I also don not have sound even after installing correct driver. Any help out

When running Norton Antivirus in the safe mode of this
system running Win 98se there is a Fatal Exception error
at 0E:C00078C0 in VxD VMM(01)+ 000068C0 when we are
testing the \Windows\Options\Cabs file. When NAV is run
in normal mode there are no errors. How do I track down
the offendign culprit? ...

explorer.exe generates page fault at boot by

I upgraded a compaq notebook 1687 from win98 to win98SE. I
then installed Linksys wireless adapter. At next reboot I
get "Explorer generated illegal operation and will close".
Clicking on details shows a page fault in module xxxx (i
didn't write it down).
So far I have:
1 extracted explorer.exe...

Hi,
My kids PC won't boot using 98SE, and it seems to be because these two files
(at least) are missing :-( I'm trying to get the beast going to grab some
files before using the vendor-supplied recovery CDs to zap the disk - there
doesn't seem to be an option to reinstall or repair the OS without...

HELP! Computer is starting up at Win 98 Setup by

My desktop computer screen on startup appears to startup
normally only to end up at a Windows 98 Setup screen each
time. How do I get out of this? In safe mode this
screen does not appear but I need to run in normal mode
in order to use my CD-Rom drive. Any ideas would be
greatly appreciated. ...

Can someone pls tell me some ways to speed up my system?
win98, hsi cble, pent2 and thats all I know. I have a
feeling there are a lot of files that I do not need. My
friend deleted her Norton and her system doubled its speed
and she uses dial up...I dont want to risk viruses??I am
confused and...
