Un-assigning a default Windows key combination by
Larry
I realize this may be a difficult question, but does anyone know of a way to
change the Windows logo key assignments that are given by default in
Windows? I'm not talking about disabling the Windows keys, but changing the
assignment of a particular Windows key combination.
In Windows 98, there are...

Disk 1 has folder Book 1, nothing else in root
Disk 2 has folder Book 2, nothing else in root

CD-R erratically detected by
J. P. Gilliver (John)
On an elderly PC I help a friend with, where he's copying a lot of his
old LPs to CD, we use burn4free (though I think the problem is not with
burn4free itself).
More often than not, when hitting the "burn" button, it says "please
insert a disc" - even if there's one in. When, by fiddling,...

Preventing spam on a newsgroup by
Robert A. Macy
Apologies for being OT, but that may not always be the case.
Three of my favorite groups now are 70-80% spam, so it's difficult to
see what the real chatter is.
Everybody on these sites don't seem to mind because they set a filter
in their browser. I can't. It sometimes takes three pages of...

I'm using my old Win98 PC as a temporary external hard disc for my newer
Vista PC (until I get a proper external) and was connecting via TightVNC.
However the old monitor has now broken and something seems to be preventing
the 98 PC from booting properly, at least I can't see it on my...

After shifting my two PC's with Win XP SP3 Home Edition to an office nearby,
I am left with a HP Pavilion pre-loaded with Win 98SE. I formatted the hard
disk and reinstalled the OS using the Recovery CD. With assistance from
Robear Dyer, I managed to upgrade I.E. from 5.0 to 6.0!
I have a...

There are postings on this group from someone purporting to be "MEB".
They generally quote large chunks (or all) of the post they are
following up, contain rants, talk a LOT like THIS with lots of WORDS in
CAPITALS (or occasionally in *asterisks* or other ways OF emphasiSING).
About every three...

When the screen was 5,000,000 by 4,000,000 there was room for all the
icons on the DeskTop.
Then I changed it to 800 by 600 and many, many icons could no longer
be found on the DeskTop. Assume monitor is gone and cannot go back to
