Intermittent Dial-Up connection problems by
PaulFXH
Hi
Using a 30-month old 1.8GHz/256MB RAM machine running on WinME with
Dial-Up internet connection.
Starting to have problems establishing a dial-up connection which the
ISP claims is not of their making.
What happens is that the modem repeatedly fails to make a connection
giving predominantly...

Help with USB please by
Ghoofie
Hi all
My daughter has an HP PC with ME. I am unfamiliar with ME.
Her problem is that she can't read anything which we try plugging
into either of her two USB drives. HOWEVER...the device manager
shows the device is working properly AND we get the little Icon
on the tool bar that shows to select...

What the hell by
Shane
XP running along apparently fine, Diskeeper pops up as it is wont to do to
inform that a Chkdsk is scheduled. Next time I bootup chkdsk runs then XP
won't go online! Reboot to ME, online no problem. Back to XP, restore the
registry, no change. Re-install the modem software, same ol' same...

CDRTC.DLL cannot start revisited by
webster72n
After all is said and done, my Compact Disc drive is *unreadable* for whatever reason, yet unbeknown to me.
As I find out, the *lost* data (?) can be recovered at a considerable expense ( 100 to 250 p/st.). It will be a lot 'cheaper' to replace it with a new one. I had no idea that the CD drive...

Windows defragger concerns in WinMe by
PaulFXH
Hi
I've been using Diskeeper Lite for some time on my WinMe machine
primarily because the Windows defragger refuses to run except in Safe
Mode. (In any case, I understand that the Windows defragger is merely a
watered-down version of Diskeeper).
Yesterday, I installed ScanDefrag and ran it. When it...

Low System Resources by
PaulFXH
Hi
I am sure old-hands will see this as a typical WinMe novice question
and murmur something appropriately dismissive.
Nevertheless, in the six weeks I have been using this computer (1.8GHz
CPU, 256MB RAM, 20GB HDD--13GB free), I have read as much as possible
on System Resources and I have set...

No more 'support' for Windows ME ? by
Wrong Attitude
I thought I read something that said Microsoft was going to discontinue
support for WinME. I'm not sure what that means. Does it mean they won't
be writing any more security patches, won't help write drivers for new
devices, won't offer any downloads and updates? Has anybody here heard
anything...

Outlook Express 5.0 to 6.0 (can you believe this) by
PA Bear
Forwarded via crosspost to WinME General and OE6 newsgroups for various
reasons. eg
5. After learning that IE 6 is more secure than IE 5.5, and after much
searching, I located a free downloadable copy of IE 6 and OE at
http://www.windowsdownloads.com/. I downloaded a setup.exe file that,...

Hardware Profiles for 2 graphics cards by
Wrong Attitude
I've heard that some people have two graphics cards in their PC. How do
they select which one is operable and also prevent the two interfering with
each other?
I have an AGP graphics card in this PC (running WinME) and I have a PCI
graphics card I want to put in and do some tinkering and...
