After shifting my two PC's with Win XP SP3 Home Edition to an office nearby,
I am left with a HP Pavilion pre-loaded with Win 98SE. I formatted the hard
disk and reinstalled the OS using the Recovery CD. With assistance from
Robear Dyer, I managed to upgrade I.E. from 5.0 to 6.0!
I have a...

Reload Win98SE over original by
Rick_Urquhart
I am running Win98SE on partition c: and WinXP Pro on partition e: From the
boot loader, when win98se is selected, I get an error from "shell" about not
finding krnl32.exe. I believe I had a virus and have cleaned my machine from
several sources. Luckily I have WinXP to do all this.
I also have...

Browser barely working, takes forever to load a web page by
Larry
In my Windows 98 Desktop with IE6, over the last few days I've had a problem
I never had before. It takes one to three minutes, sometimes longer just to
load each web page. Everything else is normal. I send and receive e-mail
normally. But it takes forever to load each web page. Also, when...

Inbox contents simply vanished by
Larry
In OE 6, Windows 98, the entire contents of the Inbox just vanished after
restarting computer. There were about 4 weeks of e-mail in there.
Other folders do not seem to be affected.
I looked in the Outlook Express folder on my hard drive, and the Inbox file
at this...

PING Bill in Colo. by
Curt Christianson[_2_]
Oh well couple of days late responding.
Just curious Bill,I was about to undertake a EE, and got married instead.
Obviously long-range plans aren't my forte. Just kidding, I have the utmost
respect and admiration for women.
What was your main area of discipline? I used to be quite a ham...

Freezing and More by
jane
Hi guys,
My computer has just done the oddest thing(s).
While in n/g it just froze; wouldnt let me ctrl+alt+del either.
Since then I have re-booted and run all obvious adaware and
virus scans etc.
I went to defrag too and it really spat the dummy there. First it
sort of stopped then the screen...

BootDisk (Att. Terhune, Rawat) by
BAP
A new thread to follow up on the “What is going on thread posted 3/2/2005.
Because of my clumsy ways of copying and pasting , I managed to mess up the
contents of that thread enough to make it difficult to follow. My apologies
to V S Rawat, Gary S. Terhune and any other who might have been...

contains the finest brains of all the NG's. That is fact.
There's several brilliant people in
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.windowsxp.general though, I
think most of them come from, and inhabit
the win98 NG !!

the left hand corner) Message in box: An error has occurred in your program.
To keep working anyway, click Ignore and save work to a new file....

defrag and optlog.txt by
winner5+63
There seems to be a log file called optlog.txt that is created after you
defrag your hard drive. I have read that defragging optimizes your most used
programs and sort of puts them where they can be accessed quicker that least
used files. In my Win98 system, there are 50 maximum programs allowed...

NDIS.VXD - urgent help needed by
Shaun Hately
I bought a brand spanking new PC last week, which came installed with
Windows XP. I've been running 98 for the last few years and was happy
with it, but some software I use will reportedly no longer run under
Win98 in its next version.
The problem is the system has now crashed and for reasons I...

It is called "StartPage-DU.dll" and keeps causing my antivirus software

Longhorn, XP, Win98se by
sf
Didn't want to resurect a dead thread - haven't read the
group in a few days, but want to know about Longhorn. I'm
still using my trusty Win98 at home and it still has plenty
of life left in it (I seriously wonder if that 5% of
internet users number is correct). When I looked up
Longhorn...

Preventing spam on a newsgroup by
Robert A. Macy
Apologies for being OT, but that may not always be the case.
Three of my favorite groups now are 70-80% spam, so it's difficult to
see what the real chatter is.
Everybody on these sites don't seem to mind because they set a filter
in their browser. I can't. It sometimes takes three pages of...
