Can't run a MPEG video file in Windows 98SE .... by

The machone in question has a Pentium 1 and a 64Mb RAM and, although it sees
the relevent video file as a .cda type, it can't run it. Running the file
starts up the CD player application but this application doesn't see the file
at all.
I suspect that a new application is needed, as my XP machine...

I am totally frustrated. I have installed everything possible and upgraded
our windows 98SE system in attempt to install an MP3 player. Apparently error
80040265 is the problem. What now?

When I want to play back a DVD or Video CD, I get the following message;
Cannot play back the file. The format is not supported. (Error=80040265).
Why?
How can I get a copy of version compatible to Win 98 or is there a solution

WMP 9 won't recognise Mpeg files by

I have had to uninstall and reinstall my WMP 9. Despite everything working fine in WMP 7.1 when I install the 9 series it ceases to recognise mpg or mpeg files.
It plays the sound track fine. When I click on FileOpen the "show files of type" drop down menu is blank but avi and wmv files are shown...

Windows Media Player.) when I try to play a wmv emailed file. This has been
going on for over a year now, and I can't find a resoulation for this problem.

I know that I am receiving this message because I do not have a sound device
on my laptop (I've tried to install one many times but have always failed).
Since there is no way for me to have sound, the player (WMP 9) won't play
the file at all, not even the video.

muti-media CD's and 98
Hi, win 95 used to recognize this muti-madia CD with is an audio CD but also
has video files. All win 98 will recognize is that it is an audio CD and I
cant't get to the main menu with the videos.
Anybody find the solution to this? thanks

WMP doesn't recognise USB ext HD by

I have Win98SE with Windows Media Player 9. WMP shows
only my CD-RW drive, but does not show my USB connected
external hard drive. I would like to be able to recor_d
from_ WMP to my external hard drive because there would be
signficantly more space on that than using_ a CD.

I am using Windows Media Player to play Tivo programs on my laptop
(Tivo to go feature). For these files, the FF and REW buttons are
disabled. I was advised to try a different codec. How do I know where
the Windows Media player codec is installed, where do I find others to
