Some views not mine, about Google. by

Whatb interests me is that other people, independently are thinking as I do
about this, to the point where the BBC sees fit to make national news of it:

Newer Browser Needed for Some Web Sites by
[email protected]
Hi,
I am a big fan of Win98se, and I use FireFox browser V2.0.0.20.
For 98% of my web browsing, this is fine. However, if I want to place
an order at www.amazon.com, I have to use FireFox V3.6 in my WinXP
computer. Note: FireFox V3.6 is incompatible with Win98.
Do you know of...

.bkf files--How to access?? by
[email protected]
Dear Friend,
You can try a BKF Recovery Tool for when backup files get corrupt. But no need to worry anymore! Use Kernel for BKF and recover files and folders from corrupt BKF archives. All BKF files created with Backup Exec by VERITAS software, under Windows, Novell and Macintosh are fully...

Newer Browser Needed for Some Web Sites by

Hi 98 Guy and everybody,
UPDATE:
On my "test" Win98se laptop, I set up internet access (DSL) and this time
when I began to install KernelEx 4.5.2, the message, "Microsoft Layer for
Unicode....." (required) appeared. I proceed to download the necessary
components. When...

Irritating Youtube (about updates) by
[email protected]
Youtube is ****ing me off. It keeps whining and complaining that my
browsers are outdated, such as Seamonkey and Kmeleon. (Using win98se).
So I use Firefox 3.x and now it's whining that my plugins need to be
updated. On EVERY DAMN PAGE I OPEN. I do not get this warning on any
other website. ...

X98. An experimental variant of W98 SE. by
Lostgallifreyan
John (Gilliver), I think you've probably waited more than long enough. :)
It's at http://lostgallifreyan.x10.mx
It has USB support, ASPI, and a few other things the original needed as
extras. 48 bit LBA support for hard disks is possible, but as my preferred
way is NOT free to distribute, I...

"Switch Out" Physical HDD (hard disk drive) by
[email protected]
Hi,
I have a NEC desktop computer (1999) with Win98se.
This has two physical HDDs (my modification), an internal
"Master" HDD and a removable drawer for a "Slave" HDD. Note:
I couldn't get this two HDD system to "work" using CS (cable select).
I would like to add a 2 pole switch in...

XviD codec for W98 and Media Player Classic. by
Lostgallifreyan
Any recommendations, bearing in mind this:
I have one by 'Koepi' (XviD-1.1.0-Beta1-16012005 _Beta Release_) that plays
fluently, but will not let me change aspect ratio to correct for badly made
files. Removing it lets me see DivX but not XviD, and while it lets me change
aspect ratio, it will...

IBM Thinkpad 760E Win98 Sound Driver by
[email protected]
Hi,
I was recently given an IBM Thinkpad 760E laptop,
made around 1999.
As I have done before with other old laptops, I formatted the
HDD and installed Win98se. I didn't have trouble locating the
display driver on the web, but never expected to have so much trouble
finding the Win98...

Where is the Scandisk info stored? by
[email protected]
This is really ****ing me off. I have 7 partitions. C: is for Win98se.
D: is for Win2000 (dual boot). E: thru I: are just for storage and work
space. About 2 weeks ago, the power went out from a storm. When I
restarted the computer it insisted on running scandisk on ALL
partitions, C: D: E: F:...

Yahoo mail by
Patti
I sure wish I knew where to post things, so forgive me
please.
I don't want to have a yahoo email address. I use
internet explorer and have yahoo as my home page on IE,
but I only use AOL for my mail. My yahoo mail just keeps
building up and it is only spam mail. Is there anyway to
just get rid...

installing MS Query tool by
98 Guy
This was posted on Saturday to alt.windows98.
And again I shake my head and ask why people get off their ass and do a
little bit of leg-work to figure out what the most USEFUL newsgroup to
post to (which in this case because of a lack of traffic, is not
alt.windows98).

Automatically Bypass "New Hardware Found.." by
[email protected]
Hi,
I recently bought a Zonet ZUH2215V USB 2.0 PCI host controller for
my Win98se/WinXP dual boot desktop.
I didn't need a driver for this using WinXP. However, if I launch
Win98, of course it is detected and a "New Hardware Found.." prompt
appears. This device is not Win98...

Windows Mobile emulation on W98? by
Lostgallifreyan
Does anyone know if Windows Mobile 2003, for ARM processors, can be emulated
on W98 using KernelEx or otherwise? I bought a few programs when I could
still see a Dell X50V screen, and if I could run them on W98 I'd do it.

Upgrading USB Port to 2.0 by
[email protected]
Hi,
I have a few Win98se laptops and desktop computers.
I am a heavy user of USB flash drives, and it takes a lot of time
to transfer very large files to/from these USB flash drives due
to the older 1.0 USB ports.
Is it difficult to upgrade the USB ports to 2.0?

My old PC (which cannot be upgraded beyond Windows 98 due to its limited specs) has Windows 98 and I
want to clear down the entire disk and reinstall Windows 98.
However, when I try to perform a Windows 98 Update the Microsoft website says it is no longer

Running an old DOS program by
Industrial One
I am not a Win98 user, I use XP, but I'm crossposting to the 98 group
because if there's anyone that would know about running old programs
on modern machines, I hope it to be you guys.
I was told that legacy DOS drivers are no longer made for modern mobos
as of like 5 years ago, but I constantly...

Tablet machines and W9X? by
Lostgallifreyan
I had an idea that a large-ish tablet might also have standard mouse and
keyboard sockets, effectively making it a standard PC with fairly high screen
resolutions. I need to run W98 SE on it, even if I also run other OS's on it.
Is this possible, or are they all ARM CPU's and suchlike, not...
