Blank on start-up by
Vagrant
I've got a strange one for anyone that wants to try and tackle it.
I received a Gateway 2000 PII in the shop and it ran just fine with Win95. I
stripped and re-partitioned/reformatted the drive and restored Win98SE from
one of my image drives.
On reboot, I get the win98 splash screen then a blank...

changing from home pc to server by
Rex
hi,
I have heard that changing a setting in 'device\performance\file system\hard
disk' from 'desktop computer' to 'network server' actually speeds up a
computer as it thinks it has a larger job to do and ergo performs better.
Can anyone here confirm this.

Hard drive takes to long to spin up by
bswarm
I'm not sure this is a Win98se problem, but I can't find an answer anywhere.
If I don't do anything for a couple minutes the hard drive spins down, then
when I do something that needs to access the hard drive, there is a lag of a
few seconds, then a click (sounds like a relay click) then the hard...

General question about firewalls, about which I know almost nothing. I don't

Folder refresh problem by
bswarm
When I unzip a compressed folder, it won't show until I close and reopen the
folder it was unzipped to, or refresh the view. It is not a problem when
deleting or copying files. I have already done the "refresh view
immediately" registry mod, but still have the same problem.
