BIOS upgrade? by
Mike
rI am installing an 80 GB hard drive. I get into the bios and it shows 80 GB.
I boot the machine up to the Win 98 startup disk, fun fdisk and partition. It
will only partition to 10 GB. How do I get the whole 80 partitioned? Is this
a bios limitation? It shows 80 GB in the bios. This machine came...

I can't get into my Pen Drive by
Matt Swehla
I received a pen drive from a friend (with no additional material). I
couldn't figure out how to use it on my computer (Win98 2nd Ed.). I brought
it to the computer lab at my school and plugged it into the USB port there.
Immediately the computer (Win2000 or XP) recognized it and I was able to...

wes
Windows 98 2nd edition hangs during normal start up. There are several huge
Word files containing graphics that have caused the freezing problem. I was
looking at one in safe mode in preparation to delete it when the computer
froze again. Now start up does not complete in safe mode either. How...

Desktop, its Limits ?? by
jane
Hello all,,
Going to go deep into a computers ability regarding the 'desktop'
and its capabilities.
How much information and how many icons can a desktop cope
with?
How close together can they be? (this includes the fact that descriptions of
the icons are attached to the icons themselves)
Can this...

Changing Browser for Netzero by

Hi,
I installed Netzero at a time when I was using Netscape 4.61.
Last year, I installed Netscape 7.1 browser (no email or newsgroup

time I launch Netzero (free web access version), it insist on launching
V4.61. I checked...

Win 98 Boot-up SLOW! by
Anthony J. Dellarte Jr.
I have this PC running Win 98. At boot-up into Windows it hangs at C:\REM
. It eventually boots into Windows but it takes forever and a day.
I haven't troubleshooted Win 98 in a long time. I think I recall a fix to
this but I can't find it.
Hopefully this fix is fresh in someone's head here. ...

Why, oh why? by

I went to the Microsoft site, and (in a weak moment) allowed it to install some
26 "Critical updates".
(Wonder why my machine ran so sweet for some two years withou them.)
Anyway, it has done at least one thing for me so far: On my desktop, the icons
now again show those hooked arrows at the...

Twice in the last two days I've tried to restart my Windows 98 Dell

this has always worked. But these last two times, Windows started up
normally instead of in...

USB hub question by
Chuck
I'm out of USB ports so I need to buy a hub. My question is, should I
get USB 2.0 or 1.1? I'm pretty sure my circa 1999 PC's USB ports are
version 1.1 (is there a way to verify this?). Will 2.0 hubs work on
Windows 98 with 1.1 ports?
You may wonder why I want a 2.0 hub if I have 1.1 ports. The...

I've gotten rid of the thing. (knock wood)
I was able to get rid of se.dll, but it kept
coming back.
Look for fenp.dll
It seems that in my case that a file called
fenp.dll was writing se.dll and the various
registry entries.
