Question Why do you like and or use Win95 98 ME and not XP by
akuma
Windows XP is a NT based OS as Windows 2000, sever 2003 is. Windows 98 came
from the Windows 9x family. Windows 95 was designed for the home user while
Windows NT did not.
Windows 98 inherit the Windows 9x base and has a real DOS. All the network
support are enough for home and small...

Why are you using WIndows 98 still? and not a

Question Why do you like and or use Win95 98 ME and not XP by
BC
Security, speed and control. There are inherently less
exploit points, and being able to easily get to the system
level -- a true DOS prompt -- makes cleanups and
maintenance a breeze. Rootkits? Not a problem. That
WMF exploit? While supposedly affecting all versions
of Windows, it's only been...

"Save As..." dialog box and folder shortcuts by
Ivan Bútora
(sorry I accidently sent it before having finished writing)
Hi everyone,
as some of you might know, the Windows 98 "Save As..." dialog box, besides being
too small, clumsy, etc., has one annoying behavior. It lets you double-click
through a folder shortcut, while replacing the name of the file...

This is how to copy email from outlook express to a file you can move by
j
This app note works. But, microsoft is odd, in my opinion. Here you have
folders in the outlook express, but you can't keep that structure in the
copying procedure.
The procedure shown below will at least allow you to save the files to the
disk drive and move them about.
If you want to keep any...

In my case, compatibility with legacy software which would cost ten or twenty
times an XP O/S.

Hello:
Win98
My Volume Control that sits in the SysTray is missing. It was there
before I installed MSN IM then when I installed that, the Control
disappeared. I went into MSCONFIG and disabled and re-inabled SysTray,
but that didn't do anything. I went into the Audio tab within
Multimedia from...

Win98 vulnerable to .wmf malware? by
Rick Chauvin
Besides the NOD32 people releasing a W9x patch, there is a true (but leaked) version of what MS
will release for an official patch for this wmf problem, but everyone should still wait till it
officially comes out - I am.

Have a 9 yr. old Gateway OEM with 98 SE. It's been a great computer. I will
likely continue using 98SE after June 30.
I wan't to prepair for June 30th and plan to get a second HHD for imaging
purposes.
Am I able to image through 98 SE or do I need other software? I've never
done any imaging so...

Win 98SE vs ME by

Using Powerquest DriveImage 2002 in both 98SE and ME environments in same
PC. Using 3rd party boot manager. Both OSes are hidden from each other.
Using one to image the other. DI can see and save images to an XP NTFS
formatted partition which is one of my regular save locations. 98SE and...

That workaround of unregistering shimgvw.dll is only applicable to Windows XP
Service Pack 1; Windows XP Service Pack 2; Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server
2003 Service Pack 1.
Win98/98SE/ME *are* apparently vulnerable through whatever application is set as the
default for the .wmf file...
