Should DMA assignments survive reboot?
My new Pentium 4 is still behaving flakily:
1. Modem problems now cured (I hope) by new software modem;
2. BIOS and/or power supply and/or front panel
On/Off switch are all suspect because PC sometimes
fails to reboot until power at back panel turned...

I have been having problems with very high CPU usage when apparently doing
nothing, it seems to be due to DLLHOST, when I remove it all is fine.
What is it and how do I get rid /control it ?

Hi,
Whenever I start W98 a prompt comes up, "Display Control" Windows cannot
use the display setting you have chosen.
If I X it out everything works fine, I have tried changing resolution/colors
etc.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. I have posted this on another

I have acquired a computer (Dell L733r). I nuked it and
installed W98SE. Now when I go to Display Properties |
Settings, all I can get is 640x480 at 16 colors. It says
it's using Standard PCI Graphics Adapter (VGA). I do not
have any support disks that may have originally come with
the computer....

Well Im trying to get a driver name for my video display adapter.
And its a onboard video card.I only get 16 color display when I should have
up to 32Bit.
My computer has 3 Operating systems:
1. Windows 98 SE
2.Windows 2000PRO.
3.Windows XP Home Edition
Both Win2000&XP knows the name of the display...

dear good folks
as my printer and CD-RW drive are working erratically in
Windows XP Professional, i converted the c: partition of
my 20 GB Seagate (ST320432A) to FAT 32.
then i booted the machine using the Windows 98 startup
disk and started the computer with CD-ROM support and
proceeded to install...

DirectX9.0c update hosed win98SE install - Help! by

I made a stupid mistake today on my old Win98 SE PC. I allowed
Windows Update to upgrade DirectX to version 9.0c, and I did not do a
backup first.
Now when the computer starts up, everything looks fine, I log in with
my user name and password, the start bar on the bottom of the screen
displays...

I have a digital camera (video/stills) which uses a Hitachi 4GB
microdrive for the storage.
I can transfer files from it via USB to my XP laptop, as the XP
automatically recognises the camera and it comes up as a 'drive
letter'.

software from an ATT connection service and got a message that
a file 'wisehlp.dll' was not found on the CDROM and the installation

Edition upgrade disk and the update disk. I need to re-

In Network setup, seeking the simplest
internet connection, Microsoft TCP/IP
is available OK but simple Dial Up Adapter
is not listed (among either Protocols
or Devices) -- although I am sure it was
there last week. . . .
