Daylight Saving Time Adjustment by
ms
Back in 2007, when Gary Terhune was active here, I installed the
"Grystmill Unofficial Time Zones Update" for W98. At the time it seemed OK,
but I've noticed, and particularly this recent DST adjustment, I have to
adjust the time manually, and no longer on cold boot get the usual windows...

7-Zip by
Angus Rodgers[_2_]
As far as I can tell from doing a few experiments with 7-Zip,
reading the documentation that comes with it, and browsing a
few pages of the 7-Zip Support forum at SourceForge, 7-Zip
entirely lacks an absolutely basic feature of WinZip, which
is essential for saving and restoring complex structures...

Command-line WMA player for Win98SE? by
Angus Rodgers[_2_]
At the end of this month, the BBC will be ceasing production
of its RealAudio streams, which I have been happily playing
for years as my main way of listening to radio programmes.
They will be producing WMA streams instead. I have tried
playing these using RealPlayer 10.5, but I only get a...

Online virus/malware scanner? by
Robert Macy
What is the URL for the best virus/malware scanner? Something that is
fast and doesn't leave residue.
Need one for this Win98 system that won't take forever using dial-up.
I ask this group, because time has passed since the best have become
somewhat tarnished and must have been replaced by...

Internet Explorer by

Up to this date I have been using IE6. However, lately I have started
experiencing situations where it would stop in loading a web page.
When it hit control, alt, delete, it states that the page that is
loading is (not responding). I did a search and there is a Microsoft
page that says that there...

Want to avoid the "your browser not supported" nag screens? (youtube, etc) by

For those of you who are not lame (lame = you access the internet over
dial-up, or you use IE6 as your default browser) then this is for you.
If you're getting nag warnings about "your browser is no longer
supported" when you access websites (like youtube and others) and if

Scanning of A drive by

I have used a windows shell, 2XExplorer on computers for years. The problem
below is only with one machine, so it is IMO in windows, not the shell
program.
Only on this machine, every time I click on the desktop icon for it, or
since it starts with windows, each time the screen opens, the A...

End Of Support For avast! 4.8 by
Jerry Martin[_2_]
Hello:
The following is the response I received from ALWIL Software when I inquired
about the end of support for avast! v4.8 and the end of support for Windows
98/ME. I'm not completely clear of the statement that support for Windows
98/ME ended at the end of 2009, but that definition updates...

Scandisk completion issue by
ms
This machine was not used for several months. It booted up and looked very
normal, with W98SE in C and my files in a separate D drive.
I transferred about 150 MB from a flash card to a folder in D. That was
completed without incident. I had not yet run any program in D.
An hour later I looked...
