Franc Zabkar
On Tue, 04 Dec 2007 13:52:18 -0500, Igor put
finger to keyboard and composed:
It's my understanding that Windows 98 has limitations as to the size
of hard drive that it will recognize. I believe that limit is 120 GB.
Now, does that mean that if I put in a hard drive that...

First, understand that there are 2 scandisk's. One is the DOS
scandisk (scandisk.exe) and the second is Windows scandisk
(scandskw.exe + diskmaint.dll). Then there is defrag (AKA windows
defrag).

Is there an easy way to upgrade a hard drive without a working installCD? by
SlickRCBD[_2_]
I want to upgrade the hard drive in a win98SE machine, possibly creating
multiple boot options with XP and Linux available, but my OEM-supplied
CD is broken. I have a generic Win98 CD, but I don't have the drivers
for my computer, and I'm unsure which drivers I'd need to redownload,
and if I...

Will a Maxtor OneTouch 4plus work with win98? by
SlickRCBD[_2_]
I just recieved a 750gb Maxtor OneTouch 4Plus hard drive for Xmas.
However, all the specs I can find say it only works with Windows XP. I
need a detatchable external drive that can also be hooked up to a
Windows 98SE computer and a Windows 98 first edition laptop. The 98Se
computer is far more...

Flash drives by
Curt Christianson
Hi Brad, It seems to me that just a couple of days ago someone wanted to
try something similar. Unfortunately, I didn't pay it any mind. :(
I would get busy contacting the various mobo mfgrs. and see if they have
something to fit the bill.

Slave Hard Disk Visible to BIOS but not Windows by

My scenario is as follows.
Pentium III with Windows 98 that I want to use for backup storage.
Secondary IDE has CD/DVD player as master and CD writer as slave.
Primary IDE has 18 GB hard disk as master, which it boots from but is
too small for storage.
For an experiment, I stuck a 2 GB hard...

upgrading a hard drive WITHOUT a working CD to reinstall the OS by
SlickRCBD[_2_]
I just aquired a 60gb drive that I'd like to use to replace the C drive
in a win98 system. I no longer have a working OEM CD, and a generic
win98 CD would not have the proper drivers. I'm thinking of keeping the
dying 20gb drive as a backup.
Is it possible to temporarily disconnect the ZIP...

Compaq's motherboard had no problem with that, the HP's hard disk is present
