Win98SE & 2000 on same HHD by Buffalo
I just installed Win2000Pro onto a partition (25GB) on my main HDD (120GB) that also has Win98SE on it. Win98SE is on the C:\drive and Win2000Pro is on the i drive. I formatted the Win2000Pro partition to the NTFS format while 98 and the others are still FAT32. Was that a mistake? Seems that...

Processor Usage by Endulini[_2_]
Hi, I monitored the Swap file usage as suggested and it does indeed regularly top 20 MB, in fact it often max's out at around 50MB. One thing I noticed whilst doing this was that my processor frequently hits 100% - and not necessarily when the swap file peaks. Is something that can be improved...

Is Win 98 relatively secure? by MD
I have an older Win 98 SE computer that I would like to install as a cad machine and second computer. I always keep up virus definitions, windows updates, and spy and ad removal programs current. Is this thing secure enough to leave connected 24/7 and conduct e-commerce?

Is Win 98 relatively secure? by MBIEnt
I don't seem to have a problem with security, but I do have a performance problem if I leave my Win98 machine attached to the Internet and responding to hits for an extended period of time (24-36 hours). It gets so bogged down, I have to re-boot to get it to respond of do anything. Seems some...

Installing extra RAM by Endulini
Hi All, I'm looking to increase my memory and have come across the infamous error that means Windows 98SE throws a wobbly when more than 512MB is installed. I've read the work-arounds but can anyone explain, do you still get the benefit from having more than 512MB RAM? In my limited understand...

When I try to run Scandisk it says "Scandisk cannot continue because a program such as a Disk Utility has locked this drive. Close the program or wait for it to finish".......As far as I know there is no other disk utility on my computer.....Any way to find out what this means?

Restart in MS-DOS by jwilliams
The PC will shut down (complete) without any problems. When I try to restart in MS-Dos, the machine hangs with one task open called "Winoldap". I try to end this task and although Winoldap disappears from the task window, the PC just sits there with the empty desktop until I power the PC down. ...
