Hi 98 Guy, and others,
I have a WinXP computer and will use that to download the software and
"activate", which I assume I can do via the DSL modem?
"NETWORK NEIGHBORHOOD":
Regarding "Network Neighborhood". I do not have that on my desktop
(WIN98 PC). I don't recall if it...

Hi 98 Guy,
"Network Neighborhood" problem solved.
I am sorry I left out important details:
I did not install a network card in this computer until 10 minutes ago.
After installing the driver for this NIC, I was prompted to insert Win98
System CD rom. After all was done, I now...

Tablet running W98 SE? by
Lostgallifreyan
I wanted a tiny portable computer that didn't cost much. Dell's X50v
qualified till my sight made using it a rediculous task, and it only runs
Windows Mobile. A Psion Workabout MX was cheap until a few idiots started
demanding a couple of hundred quid each and another idot paid, setting a...

Format a HDD in a PC, then install it in Another PC by
[email protected]
Hi,
I normally format (FAT32) a 10GB or 20GB HDD (hard disk drive) in the
computer I install it. However, I would like to format (FAT32) a 10GB HDD in
one computer, which I plan on installing in another. I have a very good
reason for doing this which I will explain later.
Does...

Why is wordpad so stupid? by
98 Guy
Why is it that when I open wordpad and drag a .TXT file over to it, it
throws an icon of a text file in the workspace instead of actually
opening the damn file?
And when I double-click this icon, notepad is spawned and the file is
opened in notepad.

Win98 support 256 MB AGP cards? by
Orson Cart
I read somewhere that AGP cards with 256 MB or more would cause
havoc with Win98. I imagine that these cards would be the last
of the AGP breed before switching production to PCI express,
and that drivers were not tested or even made for Win9x.
But is there some innate limitation in how much...

why doesn't the "dir /on" command work properly? by
Robert Macy[_2_]
the dir /on command does NOT list the files in alphabetical order!
I tried on some folders, no problem. On the folder with 1548 files the
listing will not come up properly in alphabetical order.
Anyway to fix this?
At least in works in 'sections', but still wanted the whole list in
one pass.

Format a HDD in a PC, then install it in Another PC by

Hi 98 Guy,
Thanks to you and the other person for your responses.
Note: I will do this on computers with Win98se.
I won't have to explain why I want to do this because you basically
covered my reason in your reply:
"In fact, I will usually copy a whole ****-load of software to the...

It's still my primary OS on my home and office computer(s).
I suggest you have a look in microsoft.public.win98.gen_discussion
instead of this group (alt.comp.os.windows-98se). You'll find a little
more activity there than you see here.

how to run silverlight on Win98? by
Robert Macy[_2_]
website I need to use has 'upgraded' to requiring silverlight. This
website presents flat photos, no reason for silverlight, yet it is
required.
Trying to install program says missing referenece for NTDLL.dll for
exit, or something.
Which tells me Win98 is simply 'out of date'
Any workaround?

Is anyone seeing spam being posted here? by

A few different NNTP servers are indicating that there are new messages

getting them.
When I look at google-groups, it is also not showing any new posts.
So I'm thinking that there's some spam being posted here that's...

Application to download web site contents by

In the past I used a small utility that could download the content of
a web site starting from a particular URL. You could specify whether

Could anyone recommend a similar...

How to download images from US Patent Trade Office? by
Robert Macy[_2_]
Can't directly gain access to images on the government website.
Here's what happened, did a search, found the patent, went to get
images and was told had to download some whiz bang plug-in to
view .tif format, because that was the only way the website would
supply them.
