Re-installing on laptop with no CD drive by
Alpha
We need to re-install Windows 98 SE or ME or 2K-Pro on a laptop that has its
CD drive internal connection damaged. The floppy drive works though.
We have all the original Windows CDs and a Win98 boot floppy, as well as all
the required drivers. The unit originally had Win98 on it that was...

"lexplore has caused error in kernel32.dll" by
Gus Zernial
On a Win ME system, when I start Internet Explorer, I get a message
"lexplore has caused error in kernel32.dll", and Internel Explorer shuts
down. I tried the following:
-Updated IE to IE6 Update 1. Problem persists.
-Ran SpyBot S&D and AVG Anti-Virus, both with latest definitions. Found...

Systray clock by
Doc
Is there any procedure for disabling the system tray clock ? I can right
click the taskbar, select 'properties' and un-check 'show system clock'.
That removes the clock, but on next bootup the clock is back. Any way to
make the un-check hold for good ?

WinME on 80GB hard drive? by
Old Geezer
I have ordered a new 80GB drive and will want to do a fresh WinME
installation on it.
I've read somewhere that WinME has a 64GB limit--can't now remember the
details or where I read it.
If this is true, I presume I can get around the limitation by partitioning
the new HD (which I would want to do...

identities problem by
PA Bear
As far as I can tell, Poc, this customised version of OE (and IE) from
ntlworld would appear to be the problem (though with IE6 in WinME, one never
knows eg).
I'd like to see you (1) backup all your current OE data, (2) uninstall this
customised version of IE/OE6, and then (3) do a clean install...

Free version of Acronis v8 by
O.J. Newman
Hello:
Here's an item from the Win 98 general newsgroup that may be of interest to
some.
Acronis True Image v8 supports Win 98 thru XP, including ME. However, while
it supports ATA drives, it may not support SATA drives. I'm not sure.
It seems to be a multi-step process, to fill out the...

CDRTC.DLL cannot start by
webster72n
From one start to the next I lost the icon for my 'Direct CD' (Adaptec) in the Systray and with it the ability of the 'CDROM' drive to recognize its contents. The error message at start-up reads:
"CDRTC.DLL file cannot start.
Check the file to determine the problem."
I did check the file and it is...

Heirloom's F-Prot by
Job
Texican,
I've seen a couple of your past posts about using F-Prot to
run virus scan in DOS.
Because I want to grow up to be like you g I downloaded
"F-Prot Antivirus for DOS" and downloaded the latest virus
definition. Believing that I would need to run F-Prot from
floppies I tried to copy...

Vista + ME by
Corday[_3_]
I'm tired of hearing Vista is the new ME (98 3rd edition?) being used to
"slam" the OS's. Both are fine for the time they were put on the market. It's
the user that has the problem. In a day and age when nobody is to blame for
anything, why not pin it on the machine? When Windows 7 comes out...

Windows 9x/98SE, Me Updates/Patches/Downloads by

I know Microsoft has removed the online support for Windows 95, 98, 98SE &

Windows 3.1 or Windows 95 only (some of them). So, I need to be able to get
the patches/updates for Win95-WinMe somehow. Can anyone point me in...
