~ file ==> what is it? by
rs
This may not be related to Win98 only, but I keep getting a file called: ~
on my desktop. It is about 1.46M large and when looked at in a text editor
makes no sense at all. I suspect it may be some type of marketing tracking
thing? I have run adware and spybot on my computer and have ZoneLabs...

\Program Files\Plus!\Themes directory by
Howard Kaikow
I was trying to find the source of the \Program Files\Plus!\Themes directory
on my windows 2000 system.
It appears that they were part of windows 98.
Looks like most, perhaps not all, of the files are in a CAB on the Win 98
CD-ROM (win98_51.cab).
However, extract pulls them off with short file...

\CONFLICT.1\on-line.exe by
Ogg
An online McAfee scan detects "c:\windows...\CONFLICT.1\on-line.exe" and
reports Virus name: StartPage-DU.
But doing a file search for "on-line" or "CONFLICT" doesn't turn up
anything. Hidden files and system files are all set to viewable.
Why can't I find the file? Should this be a concern?

[Plz Read] USB Problem by
Travis Swift

expansion card (OPTi 82C861 PCI to USB Open Host
Controller). Both run Win98SE. Both are currently problem
free (except for this problem). (USB 1.1; USB2 is disabled

[OT] Another "niggle" vanquished by
Angus Rodgers[_2_]
No reply is needed to this. It is just a partial followup to
the long thread I started, "WinZip 8.0 running v. slowly". In
that thread, I mentioned a large number of "niggles" which had
developed, over a long period (but especially in the last few
months), in my Win98SE installation (dating from...

[O/T] Irfanview setup by
who where[_2_]
I'm a long time user of this great graphics tool, and have been using
v3.97 since its release. When I was recently forced to nuke this
sytem and reinstall 98SE and assorted apps, I checked for the latest
version and downloaded v4.25.
With the way I had 3.97 configured, it would open an image...
