Firewall and DUN: Problem? by
PaulFXH
Hi
I've seen a review of firewall (actually freeware firewall) options
where it suggests that computers using a Dial-Up internet connection
should NOT use a firewall.
I use Zone Alarm (version 4.5.594) on my WinME box with Dial-Up
internet and have found it useful, protective and (apparently) not...

Show file extensions in WinMe by
PaulFXH
Hi everybody
When I go into My Documents, not all of the files shown display their
file extension. This is particularly true for .pif files.
Even right-clicking on the file, and bringing up Properties, shows
absolutely no information about the file extension.
(I only know it's a .pif file because...

Signed and Unsigned ActiveX Controls by
jeremiah wright
ActiveX is a tool or a set of rules that directs a program how to
function. It could be described as containing specifications that
indicate how applications for windows should talk to each other. If
anyone builds an ActiveX control, they can place it inside another
application that understands how...

Noel Paton[_2_]
Anyone know what the latest applicable Dx9 update for ME is?
I can find a reference to ME in the April 2007 update, but it's not in the
list of supported OS's

Deleted files don't show up in Recycle Bin by
ms
I have found the Recycle Bin in W98SE and ME is very easily corrupted, so what
caused the change in behavior this time, I don't recall.
When I delete files, at shutdown each day, my cleaner utility shows the combined
size of the files it cleans out of the Recycle bin, so I know the files are...

curious if anybody has downloaded IE 8, and if so what the feedback might
be.
Thanks

OEM*.INF file generator by
RJN
About a month ago (through this forum) I was informed on
how to eliminate downloading 'freezes' ...thousands of 0-
KB oemxxx.inf files in the WINDOWS/INF folder. The
solution worked great! But now and then when I do a
download (especially a Microsoft Update), the problems
comes back and I have to...

Internet Explorer vs. Firefox? by
webster72n
A general question:
Several sources recommend on the internet to switch from Microsoft's
Internet Explorer to Mozilla's Firefox, because of its much safer features,
especially where hackers gaining access is concerned and Microsoft being
slow in creating
defensive software.
What is the consensus in...

A Simple question! How do I view my memory/hard drive space? by
Marco772
Hi,
Can someone please tell me how to view how much space I have left on my hard
drive and much memory I have free?
I'm thinking of getting a new PC (with XP!) and want to know what a "good"
amount of memory is to go for! 80GB seems to be the max in the cheaper ranges
and I'm not sure that's...
