won't boot Explorer.exe error by

Hi folks, have managed to mess up my machine......the current symptom that
has me stymied is that when booting it partially closes down with an error
message leaving me with the windows background image but no desktop icons and
no tool bar.....so I can't do anything further....can't get to Start...

message comes up saying this disk is write protected, remove the write

Phantom floppy drive by

I have only one floppy drive in reality. It was faulty so I installed a new
one yesterday. Since then, Windows recognises the new drive but as drive B
and insists that the old drive is still there as drive A.
This isn't just a minor point as certain functions (such as creating a
startup disc)...

Just installed Win98se on a friends machine, I've been using the CD ROM
drive to install drivers etc, but all of a sudden the drive gives a message:
"D:\ is not accessable. The device is not ready" So I can't carry on with

installed. The system BIOS detects all 4 of these drives with no problems.
