Registery problem? by
Paul
My system will not start. I power it on and all I get is what looks like a
DOS screen and a blinking curser. I can boot from floppy and get to the C
drive. I'm not sure what I can do, Im hope I don't have to re-system my
machine.
Thank you

Security Settings/ActiveX Controls - PING Noel or Mike M by
Jan Il
Hi mph170 :-)
As you are unable to use the CDROM on your machine to load the scan and
removal tools to check your machine for scumware, or use the HP Recovery CD,
by this reply I am crossposting your post to the
microsoft.public.windowsme.general newsgroup, as I think you may need the
assistance...

I am shocked. by
David Candy
I only read XP groups these days. Apologies to non XP groups if this has =
been handled.
Those that know me know I am overwhelmed with grief for the last while =
(I failed to save a life two saturdays ago). This is someone else's =
responsibility.
But I see no mention of our very long term...

Sun Java gone crazy by
siljaline
Test your installation using this test file, Harry.
http://www.java.com/en/download/help/testvm.xml
The findings *should* be Sun JVM v1.5.0_09
If no joy, uninstall _all_ the installations your currently have via
Add/Remove Programs. Reboot, once done, proceed...

Good Linux alternative for Windows 9x/ME era computers. by
No Alternative
This is a version of linux called u-lite. It is based on ubuntu, so it is
completely updatable, and uses the latest programs and browsers easily. It
can use the latest youtube and other flash video sites, for instance,
because it uses a recent version of adobe flashplayer with a modern gecko
based...

[Win Me] Automatic Updates isn't working by
\(yet another\) Steve
My problem...
Automatic Updates is not working on my system and it had worked before. For
about the past few years I've had it turned-off (update manually) but turned
it back on a few months ago. I even got the Windows Update for AU
(manually). Then I started to notice that there were critical...

Microsoft makes errors in Microsoft Security Advisory (912840) by
Jim
Just an FYI for ME users.....
In the most current update to Microsoft's Security Advisory about the WMF
exploit (http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/advisory/912840.mspx), I
believe that there are several mis-statements that should addressed in the
"Mitigating Factors" section.
1) "In a...

Question by
webster72n
When I turned on my ME machine, the so-called spam message wasn't present at
all in OE 6. It only shows up in my Vista Windows Live Mail.
Why would that be so?

Merry Crimbo peeps by
Shane[_10_]
Kind of sad how for the last few years this group has been virtually empty
Crimbo Day. It used to be almost IM (which I don't use, which maybe made it
seem a bit more special? I suppose the appeal of IM is the feedback carrot).
I think the microsoft.public.windowsme groups were invigorating...

Is it possible to do a repair reinstll of ME? I've read that it is and I've
read that it isn't. I'm having a problem with functions such as Defrag. and
Scandisk hanging up and freezing the computer.

Test Paragraph 4b by
Shane[_16_]
Without analysing further, it's safe to say it's supposedly filtering spam
isn't it. Like a really, really lazy approach to rule making. Does this
reflect the priority almost bordering on contempt they have for the legacy
groups? Or are the still supported system groups also so badly...

Router Firewall by

This is not an OS issue but given my experience with ME's regulars, I
thought this would be an appropriate place to obtain a resolution.

Backing it all up by
caroloyl
Having three C drive failures in just two and a half years requiring me to
reinstall and re-set up every program I use (which I'm doing now) makes me
wonder if it's possible to copy/backup my entire new C drive to a
comparable slave for switching out when this new primary master also goes
belly-up...
