windows update no longer works by

recently had to repair IE and OE running under ME.
since that time the windows update computer scan no longer works.
any one have any suggestions..

After what I think was something that changed things in Internet
Expolorer I now have the following problems :-
1.
When I open Windows Explorer I get the error message :-
"Explorer has caused an error in KERNEL32.DLL.
Explorer will now close."

know), I choose to reinstall. I have OEM Recovery discs so I think this will
be easy. I have searched this site for info and don't see many issues other
than possibly replacing config.sys and autoexec.bat with earlier...

under a Win ME system only (not 98 !) :
- open a DOS Box.
- type : ver ver.txt
- type notepad ver.txt
- copy the text of the notepad window
