Hi all: Recently posted a question about why the Windows Troubleshooters weren't working properly on my laptop. The replies to that question indicated that the Troublshooters were killed by Microsoft via a Windows 98 upgrade. (Though, there's no mention of this problem I can find in the...

Win98 IRQ Conflict by Andereida
I have recently installed a network adapter card in this machine and connected it to a router/gateway ADSL unit. Works well until I switch on the USB printer. Clicking on a URL link in my browser causes the computer to crash. Both the NIC and PCI to USB controller share IRQ 11 so I deduce that the...

As per header. Started the system up (98SE) and all the icons are in "scrambled" order compared to my normal layout. Re-ran virus check with current definitions just to double-check - negative. Any ideas?

Minimal tasks that must be left running by Anthony Buckland
I know this amounts to a FAQ, but I've lost track of the answer. Various tasks are offered as candidates in a Ctr-Alt-Del situation, for closing. There is a bare minimum of these tasks that must be left running. Which are they? (The subgurus among us have no idea what most of the tasks are for,...

Is there a way to prevent that from happening? I suspect that's what's responsible for how much my home...
