Can I change my system from ME to a NEW up to date system from a down load off the internet

Restore gives me an unable to restore message on all the restore dates on the calendar. I had the same trouble before I reloaded the master disk on Me, but nothing changed. Would appreciate your help. Hal

When shutting down my computer my floppy-drive goes mad as if somthing is trying to access a diskette even though it is empty. I tried renaming it in safe-mode but to no avail, i am worried that this problem might shorten the life-span of the motor in the drive. any ideas? thanks
